Free School Meals and Other Benefits

Under the current government arrangements, students aged 16 to 19 should be eligible for a bursary if they are receiving:

Universal Credit in their own name.

or are in receipt of:

Personal Independence Payments (PIP) in the student’s own name as well as Universal Credit in their own name.

Or if they are a young person looked after by a local authority on a voluntary basis (section 20 of the Children Act 1989), or are under a care order (section 31 of the Children Act 1989).

To enable the bursary to be awarded, we will need to be provided with evidence that the student is in receipt of these allowances, or in the case of a young person in care, an official letter or email must be provided as written confirmation of the young person’s current or previous looked after status from the relevant local authority which looks after them or provides their leaving care services.

If you feel that your son or daughter meets the above criteria, please could you send evidence that they are receiving the allowances detailed above to my email address:
emma.dellow@greenside.herts.sch.uk.  This could be a copy of the letter setting out the benefit to which the young person is entitled to.
